Four men, among them two police officials, were arrested on Tuesday night allegedly fleeing with laptops stolen from two Bahauddin Zakarriya University students.
The students had gotten the laptops in the evening as part of the Punjab government’s free laptop scheme.
Police said that around 7:30 pm, two veterinary science students were stopped on Agri College Road by four armed men on motorbikes and robbed. The students raised an alarm, which alerted security guards Akhtar Hussain and Ijaz Ahmed. The guards followed the suspects and an exchange of fire ensued.
Hearing the gunshots, university guards cordoned off the roads, university officials told the police. The suspects, surrounded by guards, gave themselves up.
Officials, who requested anonymity, identified two of the suspects as Constables Allah Ditta and Mohammed Waseem (Belt Nos 2758 and 2767, respectively).
