KARACHI:

All electronics markets in the city remained closed on Monday to mourn the death of a senior trader and Karachi Electronic Dealer Association former president, who died earlier.

Muhammad Irfan was shot by armed men near Abdullah College on Thursday night. He was taken to Aga Khan Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday. His funeral prayers were offered at Tayyaba Masjid in North Nazimabad after Zuhr prayers and he was later laid to rest in Paposh Nagar. Many traders present at teh funeral said that Irfan was shot by extortionists. Electronics markets in Saddar and Regal Chowk remained shut.

Irfan’s family and the business community believed that Irfan was killed in a targeted attack. His son, Muhammad Rehan, said that two young armed men were behind the incident.

DSP Shahid Abbas said that the claims of the family and business community cannot be ruled out but the overall circumstances suggest that the incident took place over a mugging.
