Easy escape?: Arrested arms smuggler flees from court

Allegedly ‘broke his chains’ and escaped in presence of two detaining officers.

PESHAWAR: An alleged arms smuggler, who had been arrested by Hayatabad police on charges of smuggling arms from Jamrud to Peshawar, managed to escape from the lower court.

Idrees a resident of Akka Khel, Khyber Agency and another man Sanober were caught smuggling weapons in a car. The weapons recovered include 114 pistols, 12 rifles and 2,300 gun cartridges.

The two men were taken to the lower court, but Idrees managed to escape from the custody of two constables. Police claimed Idrees was able to break his chains and run away.

“Both police constables, Mustafa and Sherzada, have been arrested as they brought the men to the court,” said an official of the East Cantt police station.  “We have registered an FIR and the matter will be thoroughly investigated.”
