Encouraging sports: Intra-agency cricket tournament concludes

Sharif Khana Cricket Club wins competition held by security forces.

A 17-day intra-agency cricket tournament organised by security forces concluded in Charmang Valley in Nawagai, Bajaur Agency on Thursday.


The event was attended by a large number of spectators from across Bajaur, including tribal elders and peace committee members. Political agent of Bajaur Agency Assad Sarwar and Wing Commander of 34 Frontier Force Regiment readers battalion Lt Col Ahmad Ali were also present at the match.

The top 20 teams of Bajaur participated in the tournament, which was won by Sharif Khana Cricket Club, while Lovi Johar Cricket Association was the runner-up.

Addressing the closing ceremony, chief guest Lt Col Ahmed Ali stressed the importance of providing healthy recreational facilities to keep the youth positively engaged and reverse the trend of militancy.

He added security forces would continue organising sports activities in Bajaur. Ali later distributed prizes, certificates and trophies to the winners and runners-up.

Also speaking on the occasion, Sarwar said sporting activities in the area showed that peace had been restored in the agency.
