The Peshawar High Court (PHC) questioned the prime minister, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chief minister and the federal secretary finance why heirs of a person allegedly tortured to death by security agencies have not been provided monetary compensation.
A division bench headed by PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and comprising Justice Irshad Qaisar was hearing a petition filed by Hameeda Bibi.
The body of her only son Farmanullah, a resident of Badbher, was found in a bag on the motorway within the jurisdiction of the Prang police station, Charsadda. Farmanullah is survived by his widow and a 13-month old daughter.
The court summoned the K-P inspector general of police and deputy inspector general motorway police, asking them to provide CCTV footage. It also asked motorway chief patrolling officer, SHO of Prang and Charsadda’s superintendent of police (SP) to explain the circumstances leading to Farmanullah’s death.
The bench heard a petition filed by Qari Muhammad Arshad’s counsel as well. He informed the bench that Arshad was allegedly picked up by security agencies from Charsadda district in 2011 and his body was found earlier this month. In another case, the court summoned concerned police officials from Kohat and Mardan to appear in person after the body of missing Sardar Ali was recovered from Kohat.
