General election: Stakeholders want transparency, says Kaira

He said there would be no delay in elections, government would consult all stakeholders for the interim set-up.

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Saturday that all the stakeholders, including political parties and civil society, wanted free, fair and elections in the country. 

He said there would be no delay in the elections and the government would consult all stakeholders for the interim set-up to ensure free, fair and transparent polls. He said the chief election commissioner was appointed with the consensus of all political parties, who was fully committed to conduct free and fair polls. Kaira said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) did not believe in political victimisation.

“That was why it has followed democratic norms to promote culture of tolerance in country,” he added.

Replying to a question, he said the government believed in dialogue and a four-member legal team had been formed to look into Tahirul Qadri’s demands.
