Housing joint secretary moved court after cops refused to act.

ISLAMABAD:

The Secretariat police on Saturday registered a case against a Pakistan People Party (PPP) lawmaker for allegedly assaulting a government official. The case was registered after an Additional District and Sessions judge (ADSJ) directed the Secretariat police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against MNA Chaudhry Tariq Anis in response to an application filed by Housing and Works Joint Secretary Sarwar Awan.

Secretariat police Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Khalid Ahmed confirmed that an FIR has been registered against Anis and his security guard Tahir Hameed. While the police have yet to make any arrests, they claimed to have started raiding various places.

Awan had filed an application on January 15 seeking the registration of an FIR against Anis after the latter allegedly beat
him at his office on January 7 in response to Awan’s refusal to issue a Rs100 million housing grant for his constituency.

He contended that Anis had managed to get a development scheme for his constituency — Narowal District — approved, but it was rejected by the Development Working Party on December 20 last year as the party could not approve schemes exceeding Rs50 million.

He maintained that when he approached the Secretariat police to lodge an FIR it was refused, leaving him with no option but to knock on the court’s door.
