Quaid Trophy: Ravi go third with innings-win over Quetta

Khalil’s five-wicket haul helps Lahore team grab 1st points.

KARACHI: A team effort helped hosts Lahore Ravi thrash Quetta by an innings and 72 runs in their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Group-I match as they picked up their first points of the campaign at the LCCA Ground yesterday.

Quetta began the day on 213 for seven and their innings was quickly wrapped up when they were bowled out for 236 in 89.3 overs. Qaiser Abbas top-scored with 117 while Ravi’s off-spinner Adnan Rasool picked up five wickets and Mohammad Khalil chipped in with three scalps. Forced to follow-on, Quetta were bundled out for 106 as Khalil took five for 44 and Rasool dismissed four batsmen for 22. Ravi are now third with nine points.



In another group match, Multan picked up three points in a draw against Peshawar for a first-innings lead at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Peshawar started the day on 34 for one, trailing by 112 runs. They advanced to 294 for five in their second-innings with Israrullah scored a century before the match ended.

In Group II, Faisalabad and hosts Lahore Shalimar played a high-scoring draw at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Shalimar amassed 458 after resuming play at 270 for three. Umar Akmal made 107 with 18 fours while Hafiz Zohaib scored 85 runs. Faisalabad were 47 for no loss when the match ended and the hosts took three points.

The second group match at the Pindi Stadium was drawn as well, wasting the efforts of Ahmed Jamal and Yasir Hameed. Bahawalpur were all out for 296 as Kamran Hussain top-scored with 79 while Usman Tariq made 60. Set a target of 176, Abbottabad – who had taken the first-inning lead courtesy of Hameed’s 103 – could only make 70 for two in 21 overs.
