ISLAMABAD:

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday against the long march announced by Minhajul Quran Interntaional (MQI) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, which is scheduled for January 14 in a bid to change the system.

The petition was filed by Advocate Asad Mahmood, who pleaded before the court that the proposed million man march could create chaos in the country, and therefore the court must order a halt to it.

He maintained in his petition that if Dr Qadri had any reservation regarding the existing democratic system, then there are many other ways he could record his protest. He also contended in the petition that the proposed march seems to be dangerous for the democratic system.

The petitioner also pointed out that by “inciting” the army and “inviting” the judiciary to be part of the caretaker set-up, Qadri has committed treason.
