ISLAMABAD:

Around 750 million cubic feet per day of gas (mmcfd) gas is likely to be added to the system by June 2013, resulting in an increase of 20% in the existing flow.

The Annual Technical Conference (ATC) was informed that the government was also working to bring in gas through the Iran-Pakistan (IP) and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline projects to meet the growing energy demand in the country.

Meanwhile, all out efforts were being made for addition of an estimated 200 mmcfd to the system from various sources, including new discoveries, abandoned fields, marginal and flared gases. According to sources, the estimated domestic gas shortage reached 1.6 billion cubic feet (bcf) per day, resulting in closure of hundreds of industrial units across the country.
