LAHORE: A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday suspended an order of the Lahore High Court which bound the Punjab government to look after orphans in the province. The Punjab government has challenged the LHC order by filing an appeal. Advocate General Ashtar Ausaf Ali said that a woman had approached the high court and sought directions for her father in-law to look after her children. He said the court had allowed the petition but, by exercising suo motu powers, had also directed the provincial government to look after all orphans in the province. Ali said that the LHC order had been issued unnecessarily.
