LAHORE: The Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam) has sought full collaboration from the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in the participation of local automotive engineering companies in international fairs. It wishes to develop contacts with international manufacturers, besides exploring the possibility of joint ventures with them.
Paapam Chairman Munir Bana believes that Pakistan’s auto engineering sector is facing a steep decline in production due to the government’s inconsistent policies, and that it should feature on TDAP’s priorities for export promotion.
“Repeated visits and regular participation in international mega events are vital to attract export orders, but TDAP has restricted its financial support to only two fairs in a year and limiting participation to just three times in the same category of events, which has become hurdle for Pakistani companies in their efforts to improve exports,” Bana said.
He said that buyers are generally ready to start negotiations when they see a supplier participating in the same exhibition over a number of years. The complete process of exporting engineering items takes 1-3 years, as it includes the receipt of inquiry, designing, development, sampling and then the issuance of purchase orders. These kinds of limits, therefore, do not suit the engineering sector.
