Businessmen have urged the need for exempting the industry and agriculture from gas and power outages.

Talking to the media here on Friday, leaders of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the apex body of chambers in the country, pressed the government to exempt the industrial sector from power and gas load-shedding and withdraw the increase in fuel prices to strengthen the economy.

FPCCI President Fazal Qadir Sherani, while seeking top priority for the industrial and agricultural sectors, stressed that uninterrupted supply of gas and power was a lifeline and pre-requisite for industrial and agricultural growth.

Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik said the increase in prices of gas, power and petroleum products was badly affecting the manufacturers, who were already finding it difficult to cope with energy outages.
