Shootout: Police constable, two ‘criminals’ killed

Police says the men were wanted in a rape case as well as for the murder of a police constable.

SHEIKHUPURA: Two men, who the police said were proclaimed offenders, were killed in shootout with the police on Friday. A police constable also died and another was injured. One of the assailants fled. The injured policeman was taken to a hospital, where doctors treating him said that he was now out of danger. Police said the men were wanted in a rape case as well as for the murder of a police constable. A team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Zahid Khan, had been looking for them. On Friday, they found three members of a criminal gang and chased them. When they shot at the police, the police shot back, killing two of them on the spot. They were later identified as Ijaz and Babar. One of the policemen, Constable Liaqat Ali Wattoo, was killed and Constable Tahir Shah was injured.
