In a press release issued by the MQM, the two leaders had a telephonic conversation on Thursday evening and discussed the prevailing political situation in the country.
The MQM chief categorically stated that the MQM is an allied party and there was no truth to the rumours that it was seeking to part ways with the government. Altaf said that the MQM is a democratic political party that seeks continuation of democracy.
Both the leaders agreed that the co-operation between the two parties would continue for promoting democracy and bringing stability in the country.
On the other hand, the President’s spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar confirmed that both the leaders had discussed the current political situation of the country and vowed to continue supporting each other for democratic dispensation in Pakistan.

The march is not against government or any political party.the march is to conduct/follow the rules of elections as defined in the constitution
@Shanzay Khan: That is the name of the game. Politics is nothing but a 'balancing act' and you can call Altaf Hussain a 'Great Balancer.'
The MQM is the only party that has suffered four operations against it and it is still gaining a foothold in Sindh and the country, Inshallah. Their manifesto is one of equity, justice, education and progress. This is something no one can deny.
Salams for 2013.
Any learned person will understand that Qadri's demands are the essence of a true democracy. Today's "democracy" is where a villager cannot dare to vote against the wishes of his sardar. When we talk about "dhandhli" we forget about the rural area, where 90% of the rigging takes place. In cities we raise voice through social and electronic media about one or two incidents and turn them into watergate scandals. Our media doesn't even have access to 65% of rural polling stations in Sindh, Balochistan, KP, FATA & Punjab!
As seen in the recent by-polls the Election Commission was totally powerless in implementing its rules in Punjab. The ruling provincial party conducted massive rigging through the use of government & police resources and open display of heavy firearms. The coming elections simply cannot be free & fair with "muk-muka" and behind the curtain deals by the two status quo parties.
Maybe Altaf bhai invited PPP to become part of the long march also!
Guys, I'm kinda lost here. So Mr. Altaf wants to stay in the government AS WELL AS protest against it on Jan 14. I don't even..
Despite everything, PPP NEEDS to complete its terms. And MQM is doing the right thing not breaking the coalition.
@shahid: EXACTLY !
MQM just need power whatever the prty win next election. So MQM has single agenda. They will be stayed in power with PPP and also trying to get govt share in next potential govt by any party.
He realized that he jumped on this bandwagon a little too soon!
If Peoples Paerty can make alliances with other parties like PML Q or ANP why MQM also can not make alliances with other parties at the same time.
Presdient Asif Zardari should be supporting Allama Tahir-ul-Qadri like Bhai. That will send shock waves to the bad apples.
Altaf bhai wants to have his feet in all the boats. He is the non Mullah version of Maulana Fazl ur Rehman.
MQM wants to have its cake and eat it too. They cannot exist for long without being in any govt. I am glad that they have smelled the coffee. Either they are allies or they are not. They cannot be both in opposition and power.
Can Zaradri secure an assurance from Altaf that there will be no more killing of innocent people in Karachi ???
I think there plan is to leave Mullah shivering in cold and keep themselves in warm government hostels.
