Violence in Khyber Agency: Three injured by mortar, bomb defused

Three people, including a woman and a minor, were injured when a mortar shell fired from an unknown location landed at a house in Wazir Dhand area of Jamrud, Khyber Agency on Monday.


Political administration official Asmatullah Wazir confirmed that an artillery shell struck the residence of Gul Nawaz.

Nawaz said locals rushed to the site soon after the incident and pulled out the injured from underneath the debris. They were then taken to a hospital where their condition was said to be stable. Two of the injured were identified as Iqra and Abdul Shakoor, while the woman’s name was not divulged.

Bomb defused

Meanwhile, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) defused a high-intensity bomb planted by unidentified culprits near Ghariza Canal Tunnel.

Wazir said that they were informed by locals after the bomb was spotted near the tunnel.

He said they rushed to the site along with BDS officials and defused the bomb by detonating it. “The sound of the blast was heard miles away,” said Wazir.

“The bomb weighed around 10 kilogrammes,” said a BDS official. The political administration launched a search operation, but no suspect was arrested.
