Rescue officials said that visibility had been poor on account of the fog. They said that the driver of the van, heading from Chawinda, lost control of the vehicle on Khwaja Safdar Road. The van over-turned and fell off the road. Residents of the area ran to the survivors’ rescue and informed Rescue service. The students were pulled out of the wreck. Two of them were already dead, The remaining 15 injured were taken to Government Allama Iqbal Hospital in Sialkot. Doctors treating them said they were now out of danger. The deceased were identified as Musaddaqa Aman and Naureen.
District Coordination Officer Zahid Saleem visited the hospital. He said that all the injured students will be treated free of charge. He also directed the police to register a negligence complaint against the driver. Later, Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Abdul Majeed also visited the injured students. He said the chamber would provide free medicines for the injured.
Also on Sunday, three people were severely injured when a car collided with a truck in Gakhar Mandi. They were taken to a nearby hospital, from where one of them, Dilawar Hussain, was sent to Gujranwala in a critical condition. Doctors treating him said that his ribs were broken.
Witnesses said that after being hit, the car had run into a divider. The other two were identified as Mian Khan and Imran Cheema. Police said they had been on their way home after attending a wedding party.
