Zamzama gas field almost back to normal

Zamzama gas field in Dadu, which had previously been under threat of inundation, resumed 75 per cent of production.

The Zamzama gas field in Dadu, which had previously been under threat of inundation following floods, has resumed 75 per cent of regular production. The Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) has resumed its supply of 220 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas.

Previously, the Zamzama gas field had been forced to close six of its gas wells after two gas wells were inundated by flood water. The SSGC’s gas supply had reduced from 240mmcfd to 70mmcfd. The company had to resort to load management as a result.

The Zamzama gas field was saved after successful efforts were made to plug the breaches in the adjoining water drainage systems by SSGC engineers and officials.

The field, located close to the small town of Juhi in Dadu, is owned by BHP Billiton and is capable of producing 500 million cubic feet of gas and a further 300 barrels of condensate per day.
