Conference: The latest in prosthetics discussed

The latest model of a prosthetic hand capable of various types of grips was put up on display at a national seminar on amputee rehabilitation on Friday.


The seminar was organised at the Armed Forces Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (AFIRM), said a press release issued by the ISPR.

Presenters delivered lectures on different topics related to the amputee rehabilitation.

The AFIRM also presented and showed a sports prosthesis used by the lower limb amputees for running.

A workshop on ice cast anatomy was also arranged. Surgeon General Lieutenant General Azhar Rasheed was the chief guest, while participants from PIPOS, Isra Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences, ZUIS Pharmaland, Fauji Foundation Hospital (Artificial Limbs Centre), Dow University of Health Sciences Karachi, and non-government organisations working for amputees attended the conference and visited different stalls.

The AFIRM is the only tertiary care rehabilitation centre in Pakistan that has all the disciplines related to physical medicines and rehabilitation under one roof.
