KARACHI:

KESC stayed in second position in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) after playing out a 1-1 draw with PIA at the KPT Football Stadium in Karachi yesterday.

PIA scored the opening goal through Nasrullah in the 21st minute before KESC’s Abdul Salam equalised in the first minute of the second half. KESC now have 55 points from 26 matches, while Muslim FC, their closest rivals, are five points behind with four matches to play this season.

Similarly, Army are also in with a shout for second position with 51 points and six more matches to play.

KESC captain Essa Khan, who is sidelined due to injury and is currently assisting coach Hasan Baloch, believes anything less than maximum points in the forthcoming matches will damage their chances of retaining second position in the league.

“The title is out of reach as KRL are now closing in, but the fight for second place is still alive,” Khan told The Express Tribune. “The draw against PIA was a setback. We need to win our remaining matches now in order to finish second.”
