MIRAMSHAH:

Seven suspected militants were killed when US drones hit a compound with missiles in the Shawal tehsil of North Waziristan on Friday, according to security officials.

An official of the security forces said that US Drones fired eight missiles on a compound at Gurbaz, around 65 kilometers west of Miranshah, killing seven suspected militants. The official added that the compound had come under attack by drones before.

According to sources in the area, the drones attacked a compound used by Hafiz Gul Bahadar, an influential Taliban commander in North Waziristan Agency.

On June 26, drones targeted militants in the area killing five, while four others were killed on August 19, when US drones fired missiles at two vehicles when they were leaving a compound in the area.

An official said that eight missiles hit the house and the bodies were burnt beyond recognition. “We have no information about the identity of those killed in the missile strike,” the official said.

A security official in Peshawar confirmed the toll.
