KARACHI: PIA moved up two spots on the table with a close 2-1 win over ZTBL yesterday in their Pakistan Premier Football League (PFFL) match at the Korangi Football Stadium, Karachi.

PIA got off to a brilliant start as inform striker Shakir Lashari scored the opening goal in the sixth minute of the match before a couple of yellow cards – Nadeem Tariq (30th minute) and Abdullah Ghaffar (40th minute) – dented their authority on the match.

However, PIA continued to play diligently in the second half and kept on piling the pressure on the opposition. Their efforts paid dividends when Mohammad Ishtiaq scored in the 68th minute to give them a two-goal lead in the match.

ZTBL redoubled their efforts in the latter part of the game and succeeded in pulling one back when Hikmat Ullah got on the score-sheet in the 88th minute. However, it only proved to be a consolation goal as they failed to find an equaliser, handing PIA a hard-fought victory.

PIA moved up to eighth position in the league table with 30 points after 25 matches, while ZTBL remained 13th with 23 points after 27 matches.

In the other match of the day, Baloch FC and KRL were involved in a goalless game at the Noushki Football Stadium.
