‘Awam dost’ awards: Policemen honoured for sacrifices

Sanaullah hailed the sacrifices of the policemen, saying they had given their lives for peace and public safety.

LAHORE: Policemen killed or injured in the line of duty were honoured at the ‘Awam Dost Police’ awards ceremony here on Wednesday. Cheques of Rs50,000 and Rs20,000 each were handed out to the families of those killed and to the injured policemen, respectively.

Addressing the ceremony, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah hailed the sacrifices of the policemen, saying they had given their lives for peace and public safety. He hoped that the awards would motivate policemen to do their jobs with dedication. He said the Punjab Police had fought crime effectively and efficiently with the resources at its disposal. Inspector General Haji Habeebur Rehman said that under his leadership, the force had adopted an “aggressive approach” and “smashed many gangs”, resulting in a drop in crime. He said that as IG, he had been allowed to transfer police officials without any political pressure.
