PESHAWAR:

The provincial government promulgated the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2012 with effect from January 1, according to a government press release issued on Wednesday.

According to the Act, district councils, municipal corporations (in Peshawar) and municipal committees in all 25 districts of the province will be established from the new year.

The provincial cabinet had approved the Local Government Act during its 54th meeting on December 12. The act was awaiting the approval of Chief Minister Amir Haider Khan Hoti.

Under the new rules, the 25 district coordination officers will work in Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 19 instead of BPS-20. At divisional level, a commissioner would now work in BPS-20, except for the Commissioner for Peshawar, who will be a grade 21 government servant.
