Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will collaborate to promote quality education at various levels.

This was decided at a meeting between the AIOU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi and his Indian counterpart Prof Gopinath Pradhan in New Delhi, said a news release issued here on Monday.

Dr Sangi was there for attending a meeting of Advisory Council of Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia.

On the sideline of the meeting, he met with Professor Pradhan to explore possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the education field.

The two decided that the AIOU and IGNOU will cooperate in the training of their academic staff.

They will also cooperate in designing and introducing necessary academic courses to promote tourism between the two countries.

The two sides will share relevant academic research material and resources to improve and expand quality of education.

During his stay, Dr Sangi also met with the senior officials of India’s National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).

The two institutions will collaborate with each other to promote primary and secondary education through a distance learning system.
