KARACHI: A five-year-old girl was killed by her mother with a knife on Sunday inside their house in Landhi.

Police arrested the 38-year-old woman, who they say seems to be mentally challenged. SHO Khalid Nadeem Baig told The Express Tribune that the woman also burnt the victim’s hair.

The girl’s father works at a garment shop in Old City and was not home when the incident took place. Her two brothers, however, were at home. According to the officer, the husband of the accused said that his wife was mentally unstable and had returned home after undergoing treatment at a hospital a month ago.

The victim’s body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy. A case has been registered by police.
