A 14-year-old Hindu girl, N, was raped allegedly by a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) early Friday morning near Chachro, Umerkot.
The suspect, M, forcibly entered the victim’s house in Mubarak Tarr village, which is 35 kilometres from Chachro, along with two other men. He tortured the victim’s mother first and then raped the girl, while his accomplices guarded the door.
Since the suspect belongs to an influential family, the victim’s family failed to receive proper shelter. The victim’s father and other community members went to Chachro taluka hospital for a medical checkup, but the doctors refused to carry it out without an FIR. When the father asked the police to file an FIR, they also refused. “We are very poor,” the father said. “It is an injustice against our daughter. We need justice but no one is willing to cooperate.”
After mounting pressure by the journalists, the Chachro police registered an FIR No 61/2012 against the suspect and his two accomplices.
The victim, her father and the rest of her family staged a sit-in outside MNA Mahesh Malhani’s house. The whole family threatened to set itself on fire. There were reports that the accused was trying to convince the victim’s family to withdraw the case. SHO Haider Bux Khaskheli was not available for comments but officials at the police station told daily Sindh Express that they will trace the men nominated in the FIR.

its not hindu muslim thing, many muslim girls are raped but it goes unnoticed the only reason she made it to tribune is because she is hindu. Never the less culprit should be punished
Very Sad to read this. This is happening all over PK and rule of law must be established in order to punish those who think they are above Law. I surely say if this kind of incident happened in Punjab, CM would had taken action but in other provinces we all know. Long live Pakistan
@Dr V. C. Bhutani: I guess you have forgotten the gang rape in India. Three cheers to secular nation called India....
@insaniyat: What a insane comment... why do u guys (indian trolls) blame the whole nation for what one person has done... Looking at ur logic... what has happened to indian girl who was raped in india, your country is not secular either... grow up...
@Its (still) Econonmy Stupid: "Here is another rexample of a six year old hindu girl raped by the so called an influential person on December 14, 2012"
In this case rapists were sons of some influential Pakistanis. Some one mentioned that in a letter to editor in Dawn Newspaper. Most Pakistani Newspapers including ET failed to report the incidence.
This is my first comment this morning (24 Dec 2012). I hope I am not posting too quickly. Since the victim was a Hindu minor girl, the episode shall be soon forgotten. Three cheers for Islam, Allah, the Prophet, Hadith, and Shariat in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Viney Chander Bhutani, Delhi, India, 23 Dec 2012, 1857 IST You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.
@aaj:
What a stupid comment you have made! The truth hurts, doesn't it? You criticize the treatment of Muslim minorities in other countries (though you also butchered Bengalis, Ahmedis, Shias, etc. in your own country, not to mention Hindus, Sikhs, Christians) but you want to cover up the savagery with which you treat Hindu girls (they are still children!) by calling them "Pakistani". Would anybody want to belong to a country that is still living in a stone age? Sir, come of your cave and look at the world outside your primitive abode.
@Fed up:
There is a difference, Sir, between what happens to a minority girl and a Muslim girl. The former is doomed to live a life of isolation and trauma, carrying the scars of her horrendous for the rest of her life. The latter, though her experience is equally bad, has the advantage of living in a country where Muslim victims are comforted even by savages. India has cases of rapes but the punishment is severe -- whether the victims are Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs or any other faith and also regardless of the perpetrators' religious belief. In Pakistan, on the other hand, the animals are showered rose petals if they destroy the lives of minoriities. And please stop saying that you are ashamed of the subcontinent. You should be, more precisely, saying you are ashamed of being a Pakistani. A girl's life has been destroyed and you are engaging in petty semantics to put on an air of decency. These are crocodile tears. Hope you have sisters, daughters (you must, in any case, surely have had a mother). Ask them how they feel about this tragic episode in a country run by barbarians and cave dwellers.
@Its (still) Econonmy Stupid: Seeing is believing. I offer you to come to Pakistan and I will lead you to Rinkle's home where you will be given as much time as you like to be spent with her and ask her if she was forced by anyone to embrace Islam or it was her own choice. I will pay your expenses including return ticket and all others. Okay. And yes, please read the subject of Journalism with particular topics 'Role of Media in Opinion Formation'. I hope you will come to know much more than you presently know how and why the media creates hype. Mian Mitho is a man of high character. I have visited him, met him personally and also had a long conversations with many other previously non-touchable Hindus of lower caste who had become Muslims and accepted Islam along with their families. But now you are going to say that they too had been forced to become Muslims....Mirpur Mathelo is 50 Km from Sukkur where I live, and I think I know people over here much more than you could know even if your information comes from a RAW spy. Don't be emotional. We have much to be emotional but we don't be. I am a staunch supporter of Minorities' rights unlike you. So calm down. And there was no head shaving of Rinkle at all, Come out of your Hindu-philia and Muslim-phobia, plz
@Sahito Zaheer: For your kind information, I have met Rinkle myself where I came to know that she could have been sent to India by her parents if she had stayed with them, thus she preferred to live with her husband after embracing Islam in a local court
Just a sidebar: There have been many cases of religious persecution in Sindh. Among these, the most recent include 19 year old Hindu girl Rinkle Kumari from Mirpur Mahelo in Ghotki district, Sindh province who was abducted by a gang and "forced" to convert to Islam, before being head shaved.
“Mian Mitho is a terrorist and a thug. He takes the girls, and keeps them in his home for sexual purposes,” said Ms. Kumari’s father, Nand Lal, noting that Mr. Mitho’s armed guards had escorted his daughter to court appearances and news conferences. Mr. Shaman estimated he had converted 200 people the previous year. There, Ms. Kumari was welcomed by Mr. Mitho’s elderly brother, Mian Shaman — the same cleric who had converted her three days earlier — who led her into the towering shrine. Women are not permitted inside, he said — they may only peek through a small barred window in the tomb wall — but he made an exception for Ms. Kumari. “She was a special lady,” he said. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/26/world/asia/pakistani-hindus-say-womans-conversion-to-islam-was-coerced.html?pagewanted=all&r=0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HumanrightsabusesinSindh#citenote-5
Now back to the topic of the day.
shame
Shame! Disgust! Animals! Savages! These are some of the words that come to mind at what you do to 14 year minority girls. Are there no decent and God-fearing Pakistanis who could stand up for this poor child who will carry the scars of this horrendous act for the rest of her life? Imagine if someone did that to your mother, wife, sister or daughter? Your police are a pathetic lot; even corrupt people have hearts but your police are worse than butchers who see and do not act against the criminals because "this happens all the time to minorities" in Pakistan. India has had a recent gang-rape case and I am proud that the entire nation has risen to slam the government that such things have taken place. The criminals are behind bars and will cool their heels in a prison cell for the rest of their lives. But in Pakistan they are showered with rose petals and celebrated as "heroes" by the hate-mongering mullahs who, with their bigotry, create the comfort zones for such animals.
This is sickening, really sickening! But how does one just assume that she was raped because she was Hindu? Aren't Muslim and Christians girls raped too? Maybe she was just raped because of her being a girl in this ridiculous subcontinent? Anyway, whatever the reason, I'm just ashamed of being someone who belongs to this subcontinent!
@aaj: "I dont understand why ET brings religion into this. The morale of the story is that an influential person raped a pakistani girl… period…"
I would have agreed with you if Pakistan had been a secular country but it is not. All people are not equal in a non secular country and the inequality is institutionalize e by the constitution and laws.
Muslim > Hindu in Islamic republic of Pakistan. The foundation of Pakistan is laid that way in its constitution and laws. Not surprising.
Where is Bilawal Bhutto now ?? ............hasn't someone told him at least come up with his usual hollow sounding statements, at least for effect.
Disgusting.. Animal..
Criminal tendencies are seen everywhere and in every one. Religion has nothing to do with that. This is an individual's act who has used his power in a remote least populated area of Tharparkar desert. Secondly, P.P.P will definitely distance itself from the perpetrator of this heinous crime. All those who are ignited on hearing the news of rape of a non-Muslim girl in Pakistan should also take into account hundreds of girls raped in Gujrat AhmadAbad India during Hindu Muslim violence, and hundreds of Muslim men lost their lives with many of reports of clear connivance of state machinery. Thirdly, Calm down regarding Rinkle Kumari. She confessed Islam and Mian Mittho did nothing other than protecting her. For your kind information, I have met Rinkle myself where I came to know that she could have been sent to India by her parents if she had stayed with them, thus she preferred to live with her husband after embracing Islam in a local court. After that, she was given a fool proof security in a separate Darul Amaan in Karachi for more than a month by Supreme Court of Pakistan, and on next hearing she stuck to the same version that she wanted to live with her husband and she had become a Muslim. As far as this case of rape is concerned, we should think on humanitarian basis rather than on religious. In Delhi bus rape, we saw thousands of people come out of their dens demanding the death penalty for the culprits. I can expect the same multitudes of people coming out for raising the voice of a Hindu victimized girl and handing down the most severe punishment to the perpetrators.
Hate and intolerence, shame on us for raping her coz she was hindu.
@jibran: Here is another rexample of a six year old hindu girl raped by the so called an influential person on December 14, 2012. Where two hospitals refused to treat the girl and police refused to file FIR. http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/pakistani-hindu-girl-admitted-to-hospital-ten-days-after-being-raped-305588
I dont understand why ET brings religion into this. The morale of the story is that an influential person raped a pakistani girl... period...
@Raza Khan: Peoples Party should throw him out from the party.
How about throwing out Mian Mittho, from PPP for his involvement in the forced coversion of Rinkle Kumari and others?
Peoples Party should throw him out from the party!
Indian subcontinent is a curse for women regardless of religion and nation I'm myself a staunch Hindu but can I proudly chant BHARAT MAATA KI JAY when her daughters are subjected to fear at every step in public places? But the brighter side is since I stay in ahmedabad in gujarat women can roam and wander freely till midnight be it restaurants multiplexes without strict policing and I hail Narendra Modi for that. Need strong leadership for women rights and protection rather than incumbents who are nothing short buffoon champs
Its the most shameful n horrifying act n deserve punishment minimum as mention @Muhammad. Next important element is he being a Political worker, his party's senior officials need to be included in FIR, because they are the one who select n later unleash such wolfs.
Huh the Country of Pure with Pure Jungle RAJ. It deserves the Floods and Tremours and Economic Meltdown
this is not important. . What is important is criticizing/abusing/mocking Imran Khan because he said Womens Reserved Seats should be abolished. . . Misplaced priorities is the reason we are so far behind the rest of the world !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the infidels fault....according to Shariah
he must be hanged so next time nobody take that kind of action .they are not human being and zardri must take action
Nothing new. This poor girls one among a long list of Hindu girls raped in Pakistan. India should grant open asylum to any and all Hindus and Sikhs who wish to migrate to India. There is no hope for non-Muslims in Pakistan where they are destined to live as third class citizen as enshrined in the constitution.
Blasphemy - What blasphemy?? This is the real insult to Allah and fellow human beings.
Rapists ....Sometimes focus your devil ideas on your mothers and sisters .Taste of a Daughter or wife of a person belong to another religion is not that different . Shame on your so called peaceful religion .
The so-called custodians of democracy (president and co) should intervene and see to it if injustice was done to her in which case the accused must be brought to book.
Atleast ET should expose the name of the accused.Or should I say it is also under the influence of The Influential family?
When it comes to minorities Every Muslim is influential.
He should be sentenced to life in prison or executed. We must not tolerate this!
