KARACHI:

The United Nations should change Article 38 of the Convention on the Rights of Children, which states that children below 15 years cannot be recruited into the armed forces and increase the age limit to 18.

Speakers at a workshop organised by members of the Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (Sparc) made the suggestion on Friday.

MPA Syeda Marvi Rashidi from Pakistan Muslim League-Functional said that political parties are playing their part in implementing laws on the rights of children.

Iqbal Detho, the national manager of the Sparc, said that states that ratify international conventions must make their domestic laws accordingly.

Rubina Brohi from Aurat Foundation and Initiator’s Rana Asif also shared their views on the subject.
