Criminals beware: Month-long police operation in Sanghar to start from next week

HYDERABAD:

The Sanghar police is expected to launch a widespread operation against criminals in the district next week, Sanghar SSP Muhammad Ali Baloch told the media in Shahdadpur town on Thursday.

Around 2,600 policemen, including 400 police commandos, are expected to take part in the operation. “The policemen will be supported by four armoured personnel carriers and two helicopters,” he added.

A police official told The Express Tribune, on the condition of anonymity, that some villages in Sanghar district had essentially become inaccessible for law enforcement personnel. “There have been instances when the police get information about the location where a kidnapped person is being held, but when we go to the village to rescue the person, the community comes out in protest and alleges that our personnel have ransacked their homes and misbehaved with their families.” Demanding ransom for returning stolen vehicles is also common, added the official.



SSP Baloch said that the operation is likely to last for more than a month, as “many criminals relocate to other districts until an operation lasts. They later return and resume their activities”.
