Academic: Brazil increases scholarships for Pakistani students

In the last decade, 40 million people were lifted out of poverty in Brazil, say Leoni.

ISLAMABAD:

The Brazilian government has increased the scholarships for Pakistani students.

This was announced by the Brazilian Ambassador Alfredo Leoni while addressing the students and faculty of Quaid-e-Azam University on Friday.

He said that 15 Pakistani students were granted full PhD scholarships by the Brazilian government, a number that has raised 50 per cent from 2011.

“This is an example of how much the Brazilian government is interested in improving its relations with the government and the people of Pakistan,” said the ambassador.

He highlighted the economic achievements of his country, currently the sixth largest economy of the world, saying that in the last decade, 40 million people were lifted out of poverty in Brazil.

He also highlighted the potential of tourism in Brazil and invited the Pakistanis to witness Football World Cup of 2014 and the Olympics of 2016, both the events to be hosted by Brazil.
