Illegal sugarcane operation: 101 weighing bridges sealed

FAISALABAD: Local administration sealed 101 weighing bridges on Thursday for operating illegally, Divisional Commissioner Syed Tahir Hussain said on Friday. Cases have been registered against 75 people for purchasing sugarcane at less than the price fixed by the government. Chairing a meeting, Hussain directed the officers concerned to protect the interests of sugarcane growers and ensure that they are paid on time. He also directed the officials to instruct the growers and transporters to paste reflectors on their tractor-trolleys. He also told them to monitor tractors for overloading.
