The process is expected to take 69 days to be completed.
This tedious method of verifying the voters’ list was suggested by the Supreme Court during a hearing of a related case.
The Election Commission of Pakistan had earlier called this exercise “unworkable”. However, the commission agreed to do so with the help of the Army.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim had said that the SC order on verification of voters lists will be implemented in letter and spirit.

Karachi being marginalized again, quota system, discrimination in institutions and killing are all dirty ploys. Karachites have always been discriminated against in the past,Why an Official from punjab being nominated to overlook the process.
People do not vote for MQM out of duress, the MQM has given a sense of identity to Urdu speaking pakistanis (everybody still call us mohajirs anyway) who had no where else to go.
MQM delivered when it had the power during Musharraf Karachi prospered and developed, so why this non compromising attitude towards MQM. is it because that it represents indian migrants?
The beginning of the separation of urban Sindh from Pakistan.
69 days, quite controversial number hahaha
@Sajid Khan: So why only Karachi? Why quota system is only in Karachi? Why Election commission from Punjab for delimitation in Karachi? Karachi has been marginalized since the day Mohajors migrated to this city.
@Aysha: I reckon you did not followed the SC proceedings. SC ordered such verifications keeping in view the current situation of Karachi. If such verification are carried out with the support of Army, then we could at least point of suspicious people who could be potential terrorists.
ha ha ha 69
KARACHI, continues to be discriminated against.
May it be quota system which is not applied in any other city except Karachi or the door to door verification. The people of Karachi is marginalized in one way or the other.
lolzz @ 69 days....
@Noman: Voter list has not been prepared by Mqm in any election so could you explain how come Mqm is involved in any possible erroring?
@Tanzeel: Would you prefer 66 days? or 99 days?
"69" days... interesting..
I have already given a solution to make this task cost effective, time effective, or simply an efficient way, addressing the issues of all stakeholders which may also reduce the polarization, but EC is not giving any hear to it. Please refer: http://tribune.com.pk/story/480032/letter-to-ministries-ecp-seeks-army-security-for-voter-verification/
The issue of the voters list is very simple and need not to waste a lot of money and human resource. As we all know that there are two addresses on CNIC; permanent & Present and it is the requirement to produce original CNIC at the time of voting. Thus the voter must be residing on the present address or on permanent address, no room for the 3rd address. The voters list may be prepared with a click on key board with permanent address on CNIC of entire country and if any one wanted to have his/her name on present address as per CNIC, he/she may send a sms to a number (may be specified by NADRA/EC) from a mobile number registered in his/her own name or a family members name (this will be verified by NADRA). The NADRA/EC may give 15 days time to sms for request in change of voter list. This may be done through countrywide media campaign and all parties must also campaign it at their own level. The work is so easy and cost effective if we use already available NADRA data base if NADRA thinks its data base is reliable. No need to involve army, police, rangers, FC, teachers, other government departments etc except NADRA/EC. However, if one wanted to get it vote registered on a address other than permanent or present address, the SC/EC should ask him/her for the reasons.
This is a tough job, specially when one house has 600+ doors :) MQM's so called mandate is going to be exposed very soon.
