Court proceedings: Plea questions MQM chief’s nationality

Founder and chairman of Awami Himayat Tehreek Pakistan files an application in the SC’s Karachi registry.

KARACHI: The Supreme Court (SC) will determine the nationality of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder and chief Altaf Hussain. This decision will establish whether or not he is eligible to lead Pakistani citizens. Advocate Moulvi Iqbal Haider, founder and chairman of Awami Himayat Tehreek Pakistan, filed an application in the SC’s Karachi registry on Thursday, requesting to implead as intervener in the suo motu proceedings. Haider also requested the court to discharge the contempt notice issued by the apex court.
