Retired Navy officer’s body found

KARACHI: The body of a retired Navy petty officer, who ran a bakery, was found in Surjani Town on Wednesday.

The Surjani police identified the man as 58-year-old Idrees Khan, whose body was found in bushes near alFalah Mosque, Sector 7 of Surjani Town.

The police said the victim’s hands and feet were tied and there were torture marks on the body.

The cause of the death was strangulation. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

The police quoted the victim’s brother Khursheed Khan as saying that Idrees left his house on Tuesday afternoon after telling his family that he was going to North Nazimabad 4 Roundabout to meet two men, Fayyaz and Shahid, for a business matter.

In the evening, Idrees called home and said that the two men were helping him purchase cold drinks for his bakery at a cheaper price. He asked his family to pay money for the cold drinks to a man, who would arrive at the house with his identity card. The family paid Rs50,000 in cash and also handed over a cheque of Rs10,000 to the person, who later turned up at the house.

However, when Khan did not return home till late night, the family tried calling him on his cell phone, but he did not respond. They were informed by the police the next day that Idrees’ body had been found.

“My brother ran a bakery named Mashallah Bakery in Liaquatabad No 8,” Khursheed told The Express Tribune. “The cheque that we handed over to the man has also been cashed.”

Khursheed also said that so far, there has been no clue as to who were the people responsible for his brother’s death and the victim’s cell phone is also missing.

Idrees was a father of seven and a resident of Liaquatabad. The police have registered a case on behalf of the victim’s brother.
