The Punjab government will announce a special package for working women on December 22, Parveen Masood Bhatti, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA said on Thursday.

Addressing a seminar for working women at the Rasheedia Auditorium in Bahawalpur, Bhatti said the package would allow women to obtain easy loans from Punjab Bank.

She said a policy will be developed to ensure working women are better respected. She said the lady health workers would be made permanent employees and their salary would be increased. She said the new policy would ensure that women are posted to cities close to their homes to mitigate transport problems.

She said a woman member will be appointed in the Punjab Public Service Commission and all recruitment committees.

She said the women’s quota in provincial jobs would be increased to 15 per cent and age requirement relaxed by 3 years. She said laws were being formulated to eliminate violence against women and ensure they get their share in inheritance according to Shariah.

All-Pakistan Women’s Association general secretary Sabeeha Nazeer praised the chief minister for taking steps to give working women a better place in society. She also praised the creation of the Women Development Department.

Professor Zahida Javed said the inclusion of women in economic activities was contributing to the return of economic stability in the country.
