Watan cards to launch in Sindh, Punjab

NADRA is expected to launch Watan cards to distribute Rs20,000 per family in the flood affected areas.

LAHORE:

NADRA is expected to launch Watan cards in Punjab and Sindh on Thursday to distribute Rs20,000 per family in the flood affected areas.

Deputy chairman NADRA Tariq Malik told the media in Islamabad that NADRA will launch Watan Cards on time. He said the same card will also be launched in other provinces after  relevant information is collected. He added that flood victims will have to present their national ID cards in order to receive the Watan card.

Malik said Watan cards will be issued to Pakistani nationals only and foreigners will not be able to benefit from the relief system.

Earlier this week, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira had controversially said that it would not be possible for the government to pay Rs20,000 each to the flood affected families before Eid. This statement was then followed up by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who said that the Punjab government will start disbursing 40 billion rupees among flood victims before Eid.
