Law enforcers clueless about abducted hospital worker after 10 months

Sindh High Court dissatisfied with police’s performance in the case.

KARACHI: Amid carols welcoming Christmas, Issac Simons’ family also prays for his “miraculous” return.

The 25-year-old former employee of the Good Samaritan Hospital, operated by a Korean NGO in Orangi Town No. 16, and his 40-year-old colleague, Indryas Javed, were allegedly kidnapped by some men in a white Corolla on February 29 this year. The incident reportedly took place at Jauhar Chowk near Gulshan-i-Bihar while the two were on their way to the hospital. Indryas worked as a general manager at the hospital, while Issac was an accountant.

“Some Pashtu-speaking people kidnapped Simon and Javed while they were going to the hospital,” Younus Sadiq, Simons’ father, told the judges. The family had lodged a kidnapping case, FIR No. 27/2012, under sections 365 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Pakistan Bazaar police station immediately after the incident

According to the police, the suspects stopped the victims and asked them if they were Korean. Even after Simon and Javed said no, they were taken out of the car and thrown into a truck. In his petition filed in the Sindh High Court (SHC), Sadiq said that Indryas managed to jump off the truck, but Isaac could not. “It has been 10 months since the incident took place, but the police are still clueless,” complained the petitioner’s lawyer, Qadir Hussain Khan.



“It is unfortunate that the inquiry and investigation in the matter is not at all satisfactory,” observed SHC Chief Justice Mushir Alam, who was heading the bench. For their part, SP Nouman, DSP Waheed and DSP M Yaqoob Pathan complained to the judges that the Rangers did not coordinate with them.

The police said that they chased the truck, but failed to reply, when the judges asked them why they did not continue the chase. The police officials have also failed to interrogate Indryas, the judges noted.

The bench adjourned the hearing till December 31, and ordered the police to present Indryas, who has already filed a petition against the policemen and accused them of harassment.
