Royal, luxurious Wing Chair comes to the capital

The furniture at the showroom is designed in Europe and manufactured in Lahore.

ISLAMABAD: With a palatial lawn decked with fairy lights and a red carpet rolled out, the Wing Chair launch arrived with a bang in the capital city. Residents of the city flocked to the opening of the high-end retail showroom to witness grandly laid furniture, antique wall pieces, gold adorned tables and bold coloured bed sets.

The Wing Chair started out in Valencia, Spain in 1985. The company came to Pakistan in 2003 and quietly established itself as the producer of the finest contemporary, classic and office furniture in Pakistan. The store is set in a large expansive house facing the Margalla Hills and offers designs that are not for the faint-hearted. Providing furniture to five star hotels, palaces and villas in the Middle East, the name has now become synonymous with quality and design.

CEO of Wing Chair, Dawar Rashid, explained to The Express Tribune that all their furniture is designed in Italy and Spain. “The blue print for our furniture is from Europe, however, the furniture is manufactured in Lahore. That’s what makes us special; we manufacture locally but our standards are not lower than international [standards],” he said. “The quality and cut of our furniture is unique and you will not find it anywhere in Pakistan,” he added. When asked about the name Wing Chair, Rashid pointed out to a large royal purple single settee with golden wood work carved around the cushions and stated, “We want to give our customers the ‘Wing Chair’ attitude.”

The ground floor of the showroom consists of more contemporary furniture, from a sleekly polished black Versace foyer table and another Versace eight seater table, to a round cheetah print sofa and an edgy white bed set with low side tables. Interestingly, the contemporary furniture still manages to look opulent even with minimal detail. The basement, however, is a whole new world, with heavy white marble six seater tables with intricate and sleek patterns and large wooden beds carved with gold leaf paper. The basement sticks to the traditional and gives out a royal vibe be it a luxurious Spanish villa or an Arabian palace. One guest even exclaimed, “I feel like I’ve entered a sheikh’s palace!”

The designs seem to mesh different worlds into one. “What’s amazing is the fact that all of this was made right here in Pakistan; it just goes to show that anything can be done,” said the Ambassador of Cuba to Pakistan, Jesús Zenén Buergo Concepción.



Model Natasha was hosting the event, which added more glamour to an already grand show room. The price tags on some of the pieces, however, are high enough to send many packing, making the showroom a place to shop for those with deep pockets.
