The general elections will be a fight between supporters and opponents of new provinces in Pakistan, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Saturday. He was addressing a public gathering in PP-202. More than 30,000 people attended the rally.
Gilani said the main competition in the elections would be between the “leaders of Lahore” and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) .
He said the PPP aimed at creating a Seraiki province. He said by creating this province, his party would take revenge from those who were against it.
He said that the leaders in Lahore were unaware of the grievances of the people in their region.
“How can they then identify and resolve issues in other areas?”
He said the PPP leadership felt the pain of the people of the region.
“I need the people of this region to realise this reality and support us to save themselves from punishment and revenge,” he said.
To a question, Gilani said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) did not have a manifesto.
He said, “PTI cannot compete with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz or any other party.”
Gilani said that the difference between the PPP and the PML-N was that the former had strengthened the foundations of democracy, progress and peace in the country, while the latter had strengthened themselves by “stage shows” pretending to be helping the people.
“Have we ever heard that the PML-N has supported women against discrimination, independence of media, labour empowerment and the reinstatement of independent judiciary? No, because they are too busy in making political plays,” he said.
The former prime minister concluded by saying that the PPP was not concerned about losing in the general elections anywhere in Pakistan. It, however, will feel proud over doing the best for the people despite “conspiracies” against it by the opposition and despite the threat of and terrorism.
The public gathering was also addressed by MNA Ali Moosa Gillani, MPA Akhtar Malik and local PPP leaders.

Gilani is the Mayawati of Pakistan , ever ready to play the race and language card
PTI does have a manifesto, I.e., to target PML-N at all cost!! In this way PTI is covertly supporting PPP... Being PM, Mr Gilani once said, "On one hand Punjab government is suffering from Dengue and on the other hand it is suffering from PTI". While the Punjab Government has bravely eliminated dengue, it will certainly defeat PTI too inshaAllah!
our Ex PM consider himself to be a Scholar. very childish.
PTI has a manifesto, its loud and clear. Only people like Gillani cannot hear it and see it,because they are totally disconnected with the ground realities. And PPP's manifesto is "Money Fasto".
@Haroon: gilani may not be knowing computer/internet or english, but PTI has to be popular amonst masses
What Gilani really means is that contest will be between corruption no. 1 and corruption no. 2
What a cheep statement by our former Chief Executive. PTI will beat both PML and PPP hands down. You wait and see Mr. Gillani. May make you eat your words. It is your wish that either PPP or PMl should win, because both are two faces of the same coin and you and your family would be safe. However if PTI comes to power you and your family are doomed.
I thought PTI is the only party with a manifesto. They have clear cut policies on Local Government, Energy, Economy etc. Check their website for details. e.g for local government they plan to have 10 'villages' in every Union Council and every village will have a budget of more than 25 Lac Rs per annum. That is what I call real democracy and real devolution of powers. Compare that to PPP or PMLn and they have nothing but Maula Jut type speeches.
Meet of similar minds (PPP and PML) ...
And GILLANI have no soul
Rightly said by gilani since PTI does not have as Manifesto as both PPP and PMLN have,to plaunder the country by all the ways and means they could deploy.PTI only has manifesto to serve the nation, not to deceive the nation, as to win,or loose does not matter for us.
I can just say one thing here ........ HAHAHAHAHAHA :P
@Ch. Allah Daad: Its too early to say PMLN is going to win out-rightly. I hope you enjoyed your tenure with PPP ? :) Any positive outcome (for the common man) from the undemocratic dynastic parties (PPP & PMLN) in a so called democratic Government ?
Mr. Ex-Crime Minister you are saying right. PTI does not have corruption manifesto as you and your whole family have. Further PPP at you party N League whose corruption are telling your own chairman NAB.
One corrupt is supporting other corrupt. Both knows very well if an honest comes they will be facing real accountability.
@Ch. Allah Daad: HAHAHA nice one, its time for PPP to go....
PPP has failed to deliver during its tenure.
PTI is a rising party and will defeat PPP not only from Punjab but from other provinces as well.
Gilani is miscalculating. He will regret later on as why did not he join PTI before The general elections?
Noora kushti between PPP and Everyone attack PTI
Great to know that PTI is manifesto less party ,Thank you Ex PM to tell this unbelievable reality. AH I like the Zardari and Sharif party manifesto in action since five years.
