KARACHI:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmakers in the Sindh Assembly have said that the construction of the controversial Kalabagh Dam was not planned during the governments of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his daughter Benazir Bhutto.

Certain elements are resorting to false propaganda in order to hide their own sins, the lawmakers said in a joint statement on Saturday. They also pointed out that Benazir had staged a historic sit-in at Kamoo Shaheed, in Ghotki against Kalabagh Dam and that the entire country is aware of this.

The PPP legislators said that their party would win the next parliamentary election with an overwhelming majority. They said the PPP would inflict a crushing defeat on the PML-N and PML-F.

They said certain parties that had sided with the dictatorial regimes of Ziaul Haq and Pervez Musharraf were in collusion as far as the unconstitutional steps taken during those eras. However, as the general elections draw near these elements were resorting to false propaganda and trying to forge an election alliance against the PPP.

They further said that the people are well aware of the past of such elements.
