KARACHI:

The police have been ordered to keep criminals away from a pedestrian bridge near Jamia Cloth Market. The bridge built 30 years ago has become a nuisance for traders as it has turned into a criminals’ den.

The residents went to the Sindh High Court with a request to order the removal of the pedestrian bridge. Criminals operate from the bridge, which has been occupied by drugs addicts and numerous children in the area have been forced into drug addiction, they claimed in the petition.

Many applications have been submitted to the relevant DIG, SSP and SHO but they are not taking action.

At the Sindh High Court, Justice Maqbool Baqir, heading the division bench, took up the plea seeking immediate removal of the bridge. After hearing the arguments, the judges ordered the DIG South and SHO Arambagh among others to ensure no illegal activity was allowed at the bridge.
