Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, while heading the bench, also restrained the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation officers from harassing the organiser of the theatre.
Syed Furqan Rizvi, director of M/s Fun Rama Arts and Entertainment, went to the court seeking contempt proceedings against the senior director and director of the KMC’s sports and culture department. The petitioner maintained that he developed the city auditorium through heavy investments on the two acres land which was leased to him by the city government in 2010.
“In May, the city government had closed the auditorium on allegations of unethical act. However, it was later reopened.”
Rizvi had challenged the auditorium’s closure in SHC, which on November 21, restrained city government from harassing the organiser.
Rizvi filed a contempt application on Thursday, alleging that the Director Khursheed Ahmed Shah and Senior Director Rehan of KMC’s sports and culture department were still harassing him in violation of the court’s order. He pleaded the judges to initiate contempt proceedings
Shah, who was present at court, accused the petitioner of demolishing a wall in the auditorium without permission of the concerned authorities. He added that the petitioner also removed 700 chairs from the auditorium which belonged to the respondent.
