Boosting productivity: New scheme supports 23 professions
To avail the opportunity of getting loans for these skills, application forms can be submitted till February 28, 2013.

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government extended the ‘Rawaiti Hunarmand’ (traditional artisan) scheme to eight other districts of the province on Thursday. Launching the 2nd phase of the ‘traditional artisan’ scheme at the Officers Mess, the K-P Minister for Culture and Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, said the scheme has been extended to Swat, Dir Lower, Chitral, DI Khan, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad and Haripur. Twenty-three professions will be supported through the programme that include tailors, handicraft makers, wax-printers, calligraphists, dry-cleaners and music instruments makers, among others. Hussain said that skilled workers of the districts included in the scheme would be given loans ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs100,000. The aim of the programme is to help boost economic activities, promote local culture and art, and to create employment opportunities in K-P, Hussain said. To avail the opportunity of getting loans for these skills, application forms can be submitted till February 28, 2013.
