GUJRANWALA:

The city will get a Building Control Authority as soon as the Punjab government approves and passes through the provincial assembly the Building Control Authority Act.

This was stated by the EDO (Municipal Services) Waheed Ahmad Butt, who also said that the act had been tabled and was awaiting approval. The body will have the authority to check illegal construction. It will also ensure that all buildings have an NOC issued by the Environment Department, electricity and gas connections, fitness certificates, parking, proper entry and exit points, fire safety equipment and proper ventilation. The officials would be authorised to seal buildings constructed in violation of government rules and requirements and to fine the owners.
