A gang of robbers stole over Rs80,000 in cash from a Hindu family at Ghaffar Shah bus stop near Pir Jo Goth, Khairpur, on Tuesday.

The Wada Machiyoon police said that Hindu trader Naibhan Mal, a resident of Pir Jo Goth, and his family were on a bus going to Rohri when they were signaled by unidentified men to stop near Ghaffar Shah bus stop.

When the driver stopped, a group of unidentified men overpowered the passengers and at gunpoint, collected Rs80,000 in cash, jewellery, mobile phones, passports and other valuables and fled.

The police tried to pursue the robbers but were unsuccessful.

They did, however, arrest the wagon driver, Abdul Aziz Khoso, and impounded the vehicle.

The Pir Jo Goth Hindu Panchayat president, Mukhi Kishan Chand, told The Express Tribune that, Mal and 17 of his family members were going to visit India and were on their way to Rohri railway station to board a train for Lahore.
