PESHAWAR:

The Home and Tribal Affairs Department has issued termination orders of 11 Bannu Jail wardens found guilty of negligence for a brazen jailbreak earlier this year, said a press statement issued on Wednesday.

An inquiry was ordered by the provincial government and the Peshawar High Court following the incident. During the probe, the accused were given the opportunity to defend themselves, but were eventually found guilty of negligence.

The jailbreak took place on April 14 when more than 200 militants attacked the prison and released 384 inmates during the pre-dawn assault. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan later claimed responsibility for the attack.

A number of officials, including the former commissioner of Bannu, the jail superintendent and officials of the political administration in North Waziristan were also suspended.
