Equity market regulator: SECP briefs finance committee

The committee directed the SECP officials to prepare a detailed report on its performance.

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Finance was briefed about the role, responsibilities, functions and performance of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). The finance committee, which met under the Chairpersonship of Senator Nasreen Jalil was informed by SECP officials that the regulator’s role was to develop a modern and efficient corporate sector and a capital market based on sound regulatory principles, in order to foster economic growth and prosperity. The SECP officials informed the committee that the regulator’s performance had improved, saying that the commission has proper system of auditing the companies. The committee directed the SECP officials to prepare a detailed report on its performance, role and responsibilities in the next meeting.
