QUETTA:

Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani chaired a high-level meeting on Tuesday to review the law and order situation in the province.

Home Minister Mir Zafarullah Zehri, Chief Secretary Babar Yaqoob Fateh, Home Secretary Mohammad Akbar Hussain Durani, IG police Umer Khitab and Brigadier Khalid of the Frontier Corps attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the strategy to contain incidents of targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom and other heinous crimes. They also discussed the security plan devised by law enforcement agencies for maintaining peace in the province.

The doctors’ strike was also discussed in the meeting. Capital City Police Officer Quetta told the committee that police was trying to get information on the kidnapping of Dr Aziz Baloch.

The meeting

The law and order situation in Quetta and five other districts of Balochistan, including Khuzdar, Turbat, Gwadar and Dera Bugti also came under discussion. The committee hoped to maintain the government’s writ in these areas to ensure the protection of all citizens.

Officials briefing the committee said the situation in Khuzdar and Quetta had stabilised to some extent due to police action, adding that there was evidence that showed coordination between target killers, terrorists and kidnappers.

On the occasion, Raisani said the government’s role in restoring peace is not hidden from any one, adding that law enforcement agencies had to show extraordinary efficiency to bring stability in the province. The chief minister also directed law enforcement agencies to begin suitable preparations for elections in the province.
