Two Rangers, traffic policeman killed in Al Asif checkpost attack

Sachal Rangers spokesperson confirms 2 officials killed. Another Rangers official, traffic policemen being treated.

KARACHI:
Two Rangers personnel and a traffic police officer have died while a third Rangers official was injured after they were attacked by unidentified armed men at an Al Asif checkpost near Superhighway on Monday evening.

A Sachal Rangers spokesperson confirmed that two Rangers personnel, Enayat, 28, and hawaldar Hakim, 45, had died after they succumbed to bullet injuries while being treated. Another Rangers official and a traffic policeman injured in the attack are currently receiving treatment.

The spokesperson added that the attack on the checkpost, which was manned by Rangers and police personnel, was in reaction to the successful search raids that the Rangers had been carrying out in various areas of the city recently.

The incident, the spokesperson said, will not dampen the resolve of Rangers, and operations will continue as planned.

The traffic policeman, injured in the attack, succumbed to his injuries later at night.

Two policemen were injured when they were attacked in a grenade attack in Orangi town.

Earlier in December, the Crisis Management Cell had issued a report which stated that intercepted militant messages indicated as many as 35 men had been dispatched by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan to attack police and Rangers in Karachi.
