Choose either Pakistan or Kalabagh Dam, says ANP chief
The Awami National Party (ANP) jumped on the bandwagon against the construction of the Kalabagh Dam on Saturday, saying between Pakistan and the controversial project, only one could exist.
On November 29, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial directed the federal government to construct the Kalabagh Dam in compliance with a decision of the Council of Common Interests taken on September 16, 1991.
Addressing a jam-packed audience at the Nishtar Hall, ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan minced no words when it came to his party’s opposition to the project. “They have to make a choice, whether they want Pakistan or Kalabagh Dam,” said Asfandyar, adding that his party was not ready to accept Punjab as a ‘commander of the federation’.
He went on to add that even a Supreme Court decision in this regard would not be accepted by his party, saying he was ready to face contempt charges for his views. “If an institution involves itself in a controversial issue, then this issue will make the institution controversial,” Asfandyar said, while asking his party workers to be ready to take action against the LHC decision.
Speaking about the party’s alliance in the upcoming elections, the ANP chief said, “Our doors are open for everyone, but we do not want anyone as we can fight on our own.” However, Asfandyar went on to add that those who wished to form an alliance with the ANP would have to adhere to his party’s terms and conditions.
The ANP chief also defended his party’s government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, saying immense development had taken place under K-P Chief Minister Haider Khan Hoti’s tenure in the province.

They are still part of Indian Congress. First they were making Pakhtoonistan and now they are against Kalabagh Dam. What a politician? They are against building of some thing in the country which will be good for the people as well as the country. I Frivolous arguments. There are no logic and sense in their excuses. Are Mangla Dam and Tarbela Dam depriving Sind or any other province of their share of water? If so then these should also be finished off. It is only our illiterate politicians with 80% bogus degrees, who are playing Indian tune. Otherwise also they are plundering and destroying whatever was made for the progress of the country and the welfare of the people. Their demands and the demands of Indian Anti Pakistan lobby, are almost the same, such as destruction of electricity power, petroleum and gas scarcity, destruction of railways, ruthless killing of people on one pretext or the other. Thus making Pakistan most dangerous country and illuminating all chances of industrial and commercial boom.
Whoever opposes Kalabagh dam is on the payroll of our enemies.Why doesn't the govt. pay them more than what our enemies are paying them and shut their gabbling.Just think:no water no energy,no industry no employment,no exports,no agriculture,no food security,floods destruction every year.This is what our enemies want.

If we are prepared to spend billions on the Kala Bagh Dam why can't we pay one or two billions to these politicians to stop their opposition to this very vital national project.

do you have any other big dam in mind which will be completed in 4 years? or any plan to stop flooding? secondly, don't tell us what is best for us since you "Mr Asfandyar" live mostly in Dubai not in Pakistan! & your party has ruined railways & KPK is in disarray with no prominent mega project for KPK people in your 5 years of Govt! so please let the people decide what is best for them, we are done taking dictation from politicians like you.
